Effective solutions for many problems

Are you experiencing any of the below-mentioned problems? One in six adults in Great Britain suffer from mental health problems so you are by no means alone.

Recognising that you have a problem and seeking appropriate help is the first positive step on your journey to recovery.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy has demonstrated its effectiveness in rigorously controlled studies for a wide range of problems, including the following common complaints:

  • Anxiety & Panic Attacks
  • Phobias
  • Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
  • Depression
  • Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder
  • Eating problems
  • Sexual & relationship problems
  • Child and adolescent problems
  • General Health Problems
  • Chronic Pain
  • Habit Problems (e.g. ticks)
  • Anger
  • Drug or Alcohol problems
  • Schizophrenia & Psychosis
  • Bipolar Disorder
  • Post-traumatic Stress Disorder
  • Sleep Disorders
  • Personality Difficulties

To address these issues or simply offer a structured approach to solving any other problems that you are experiencing, Academy Psychotherapy under the direction of Mike Davison should be your first port of call.

Upon initial consultation we will define problems in specific terms, explore the factors that are maintaining the problems and only then establish time limited treatment goals.

Breaking the cycle

We often find that people have become ‘fixed’ in their patterns of response to certain situations. By introducing new ways of thinking and behaving in these situations, we can help clients to overcome their problems.

Establishing your treatment pattern

  • Initial hour-long assessment session – to discuss your problems and identify if CBT is the most beneficial route for you.
  • Treatment programme recommendation – created to meet your individual needs.
  • Estimate of likely amount of sessions required.
  • The frequency of sessions and their length may vary according to your progress.
  • Sessions are usually one hour long and are typically conducted weekly.

Between sessions, clients are encouraged to practice the new skills and ways of thinking they have learned. These skills can be transferable and applied to other areas in which difficulties are experienced. You will reap the rewards of your own input and hard work.
